On this day – 17 July

Looking back on the pre-season games Reds have played on the 17th July in recent years………….

2018

A Fleetwood Town Development squad visited Borough Park (pictured above) and played their part in an entertaining friendly producing five goals.  Town scored the first and last goals of the evening but Reds netted three in between to finish 3-2 winners.

Lewis Tidy, Brad Hubbold, Aaron Bradbury, Jason Walker, Kieran Maguire, Lewis Casson and Chris O’Brien made their home debuts for the hosts with Matty Douglas, Maguire and Conor Tinnion sharing the goals.

Legendary Workington goalkeeper, Mike Rogan, was in the sub. 200 crowd, taking the opportunity of watching his hometown club, Fleetwood, in action.

2012

A young Dav Symington scored twice at Borough Park eight years ago but, unfortunately, he was an opponent that night.

Reds hosted Carlisle United in the annual fixture and the Cumbrians ran out emphatic 5-0 winners.

Mark Beck, another player who spent a loan spell with us, netted the only goal of the first half before Dav bagged a couple, including a header,  after the interval with Danny Cadamarteri and Andy Welch concluding the scoring.

Despite the heavy rain throughout, a crowd of 588 passed through the turnstiles.

1999

Our first game after winning the North West Counties League was a home friendly against Queen of the South, twenty one years ago.

Reds gave a good account of themselves but fell to the only goal of the game when Queens player/manager, George Rowe, scored on the hour mark.

A crowd of 468 turned out for the Saturday afternoon fixture including an enthusiastic group from Dumfries.
