On this day – 13 November

A look through the archives to see what was happening to Reds on the 13th November in recent years…………

Plenty of goals two years ago with Reds having things very much their own way in an FA Trophy replay against Newcastle Town (pictured above).

The 5-0 victory was the club’s best home win in the competition and achieved by five individual scorers – Brad Hubbold (his first for Reds), Jason Walker, Sam Joel, Dan Wordsworth and Scott Allison (his ninetieth goal for the club).

It wasn’t the Staffordshire club’s night, they even missed an 88th minute penalty!

Back in 2010, we were in the middle of a goal drought and a 1-0 defeat at Corby Town became our fifth game without scoring. The match winner, a superb effort from Town’s Nathan Jarman, was a ‘goal of the month’ contender, and ended a long day on a disappointing note.

As an economy measure, the team travelled on the day meaning a 7.30am departure from Borough Park.

In 2007, Reds hosted Barrow in a Setanta Shield clash and, after an entertaining 2-2 draw, the match was decided on penalties with the Bluebirds winning 7-6 just before 10.30pm.

Jonny Wright and Graham Anthony scored the Workington goals while future Reds players, Nick Rogan and Jason Walker, responded for Barrow.

Our last league win on this day was as long ago as 1982 when John Smith converted the only goal of the game from the penalty spot to see off Oswestry Town.

Life was a struggle in 1976, in what became our last season in the Football League, and a 4-2 home defeat by Torquay United extended our sequence without a win to a worrying fifteen games!
