On this day – 12 November

A look through the archives to see what was happening to Reds on the 12th November in recent years………….

Although the narrow 1-0 score line suggests Reds supporters endured a typical, nerve-racking afternoon at Borough Park, the 2016 home clash against Corby Town was, in fact, tension free.

Yes, we should have won by a far more emphatic margin but Scott Allison’s goal was enough to register a first Borough Park victory against the Northamptonshire outfit at the fifth attempt!

They were poor opposition on the day and bottom of the table at the time.

Rob Wilson and Conor Tinnion both saw efforts rebound off the woodwork as mid-table Reds secured the points.

David Hewson missed the game due to the birth of his first child.

Nine years ago, we suffered a 2-1 reverse at Nuneaton Town having held a half time lead via a superb twenty five yard strike from Jonny Wright.

But the hosts turned it round after the break and, despite Aaran Taylor saving a penalty, won by the odd goal in three.

A home clash against Redditch United in 2005 proved to be a feisty affair and the referee administered eight yellow cards and one red as Reds crashed to a frustrating 2-1 defeat.

Craig Johnston missed a penalty but Carl Heiniger (inset) did score, an equaliser in fact, only for Redditch to spoil the day with a late winner.

Playing for the visitors that day was current Premier League star, Scott Dann.

Delving even further back, Workington suffered a 5-1 Third Division (North) hammering at Accrington Stanley in 1955 – the heaviest defeat during Bill Shankly’s reign at Borough Park! Ernie Whittle netted our consolation goal that day, his fifteenth of a productive personal campaign.
