On this day – 12 July
A look back at some of Reds pre-season games on 12 July in previous years……….
2018
The annual Shaun Hocking Memorial Trophy game at Whitehaven has produced some high scoring games in recent years but we only saw four goals on this particular occasion.
And there was a first ever draw in the series with a 2-2 score line the outcome at the County Ground. Jason Walker scored twice for Reds but the hosts responded with goals from Tommy Whitehead and Nathan Dryden, both of whom had spells at Borough Park.
2017
Reds competed well for an hour against Keith Curle’s Carlisle United side but fell away when making a raft of second half substitutions and eventually lost 0-3. Danny Grainger was an opponent that night in a game which drew a near 700 crowd.
2016
Workington enjoyed a straightforward 3-1 victory over Carlisle City at their ‘new’ Gillford Park home with established first-teamers, Scott Allison and Conor Tinnion, joined on the score sheet by teenager Ryley Short.
Brothers Tyrone and Aaran Taylor were playing against each other with dad David (a former Workington skipper) watching from the touchline.
Ryan Errington netted the Sky Blues consolation goal.
2014
We had been invited to partake in the Raydale Cup at Gretna and a 3-0 win over Stirling Albion got us off to the best possible start.
Chris Wraighte, Martyn Coleman and Danny Hodgson shared the goals which secured the win in our first ever meeting against Albion.
Prior to kick-off, the two skippers (pictured above) exchanged gifts.
Annan Athletic inflicted a 2-0 defeat upon hosts Gretna in the other game of the four-team tournament.
