OBITUARY: Bob Todd (1949 – 2022)
We are sad to report that Bob Todd, a first team player in the late sixties, passed away last Sunday. He was 72.
Bob signed for Brian Doyle in the summer of 1969 having previously spent time with Liverpool, Rotherham United and Mansfield Town. He scored two goals in a friendly at Penrith on his debut then made his first home appearance in the prestige match against Rangers at Borough Park, helping his new colleagues to a commendable 1-1 draw against the Scottish giants.
The diminutive winger, with his mop of long brown hair, featured in the early matches of the ’69-70 season, then got injured before returning to the side over the winter months. A right winger in those days, Bob made 13 appearances plus a further 16 outings as a substitute.
After his one season at Borough Park, Bob played for Hartlepool before enjoying a decent non-league career serving Wigan Athletic, Scarborough and Altrincham, among others.
He played against Reds in the early Northern Premier League years for Gainsborough Trinity.
A talented musician, Bob returned to Borough Park in 2017 and spent a few hours reminiscing about his time at the club and his career. We send our condolences to Bob’s family and friends.
