New signing Cole Lonsdale happy to be back in football

Reds new signing Cole Lonsdale says he’s ‘just happy be back in football’ after signing for the Club this week.

The left-footed defender/midfielder recently left fellow North West Division side Clitheroe and is ‘delighted’ to have made the move to Borough Park.

“I’m just delighted to get it done and get back to playing regular football,” he said.

“I know the manager and I’m just happy to get started with the lads and stuff.”

Lonsdale struck a wonderful free-kick back in September as we suffered our first league defeat of the season, and the 20-year-old revealed how performance influenced the transfer.

“I think, this season, my best game was actually against Workington,” he explained.

“Danny messaged me when I left Clitheroe so I came up and had a training session, and he liked what he saw.”

Lonsdale had featured for FC United of Manchester and Lancaster City prior to joining Clitheroe in February, but was notably part of a Bolton Wanderers U23 side which won the title in 2017.

So how did manager Danny Grainger convince him that Reds were the right next step?

“He just said that ‘game time’s important for you’ as I’m a young lad.

“As soon as we had that conversation we clicked.”

With four months of the season remaining, Lonsdale has set himself some targets ahead of the run-in.

The former Bolton man highlighted: “Just mixing and getting good chemistry with the lads.

“Hopefully, I can get game time and if I can get it regularly week-in, week-out that’s just a bonus.

“I’m just happy to be back in football.”

Lonsdale is set to be included in tomorrow’s travelling squad to Colne. Kick-off at Holt House is 3pm.
