The Reds youngsters had to overcome two opponents in their latest County League encounter – a fierce wind and a strong Aspatria outfit.
Considering they found themselves three goals down after half an hour, they rallied well and gave a good account of themselves.
Aspatria made a good, solid start and were three ahead thanks to goals from Richard Hudson, who netted twice, and Andrew Trestianu.
But Reds found a way back into the game and Chad Grisdale (inset) converted a penalty before half time then scored from open play on the hour.
That prompted Reds’ best spell but they squandered several chances and couldn’t fashion an equaliser.
They were chasing the game at that point and were punished when Aspatria countered to score their fourth, Trestianu grabbing his second, five minutes from time.
By the finish, Reds had no fewer than six U17s on the pitch but just fell short against the title favourites.
