Recap
It was a red letter day for the recently formed Development Squad when they took on the well established Workington Juniors in their inaugural fixture at Copeland Stadium.
And the youngsters competed well against more experienced and physical opponents, conceding the only goal of the game – a well taken Liam McCullough effort – midway through an even contest.
They played some superb football from back to front and created numerous chances, although they couldn’t find a way past the resolute visitors defence.
The Juniors best spell was during the mid-point of the game when they grabbed the deciding goal.
Even after the goal, the Development Squad continued to press for an equaliser but to no avail.
Midfielder, Jack Burns (pictured), emerged man-of-the-match from several impressive performances leaving the management delighted with a good day’s work.
Brian Dawson said, “It was a great first performance against strong opposition,” whilst Craig Johnston concluded, “The standard was superb from start to finish but the hard job now is to maintain that.”
