Recap
The County League fixture at Lakes College was preceded by warm applause as both teams paid tribute to the League’s late chairman, Fred Conway, who passed away suddenly last week.
When the action got underway, it was Gosforth who started the better and two early goals put them in the driving seat.

Reds recovered and a superb goal from Ben Wade (inset) reduced the arrears on the half hour mark. It got better for the hosts with Ben Davidson scoring for the third game in a row to restore parity.
But having done so well to get back in the game, Reds promptly shot themselves in the foot and conceded a third goal to leave Gosforth ahead at the interval.
After five goals in the first half there was only one scored in the second and that was claimed by the visitors who ran out worthy winners.
Gosforth included a few former Reds reserves players in their ranks and one of those, Jay Weatherill, helped himself to a couple of goals. Andrew Bulman and Jack Denwood also found the target for the village side.
Both Reds and Gosforth take on higher ranked opposition in the Cumberland Cup this week. Gosforth will have a crack at Darren Edmondson’s Northern League outfit, Penrith, whilst Reds travel to play Wearside League members, Windscale.
Team: Scott Paden-Gale (Aaron Lister), Hayden Percival (Luke Whitehead), Ben Wade, Scott Williamson, Zach Martin, Lewis Moore, Hayden Rae (Josh Palmer), Cain Pears, Ben Davidson (Jack Dunstan), Zach Lester (Louis Webster), Dan Whitehead.
