Recap
After some indifferent performances and results either side of Christmas, Reds bounced back with a morale boosting County League win at Cockermouth’s expense.
They controlled the first half at St. Benedict’s School, playing some patient football and creating quite a few opportunities. Matty Foster opened the scoring with a neatly taken goal which separated the sides at half time.
Cockermouth started the second half brightly and eventually restored parity on the hour with a Kyran Bertram goal. At that point, the visitors looked the more likely winners.
But Reds showed plenty of character, stayed in the game and eventually obtained three well deserved points.
They regained the lead with a fine Thomas Downes goal, his first for the club, after seventy five minutes and a close range finish from Tom Skinner just before the end secured a much needed victory.
Reds travel to Maryport Athletic next Saturday.
