Recap
The Reds youngsters gave a good account of themselves against the Cumberland County League leaders, Aspatria, and salvaged a point after twice coming from behind.
Indeed, they should have been comfortably ahead after a bright start before the visitors got their noses in front via a dubious penalty. Shaun Smith converted the spot-kick to give his side a slender lead at the interval.
Reds were back on terms soon after the restart and they too benefitted from another soft penalty. Tom Houghton, who scored from the spot when the two sides met earlier in the season, converted again to restore parity.
Aspatria enjoyed another purple patch and re-gained the lead around the seventy minute mark, Smith netting his second of the afternoon following a well worked set piece routine.
Back came Reds and another fine goal saw them equalise for a second time to dent Aspatria’s title aspirations.
Leon Dmytrowski went on one of his typical slalom runs and released Carl Lightfoot (pictured) who, in turn, danced round the ‘keeper to roll the ball into the vacant net.
The game could have gone either way so fitting that it ended all square.
