The Young Reds cannot shake off the losing mentality at the moment and their struggles in the Premier Division are being replicated in the cup competitions.
First Division leaders, Cockermouth, emerged comfortable winners in this Conway Cup semi-final and two first half goals earned them a place in the final where they will play Gosforth.
Rob Cox and Kyran Bertram netted for Cockermouth and, although Reds thought they had reduced the arrears via a Cain Pears free-kick, the visitors rarely looked like overturning the deficit.
Pears did find the net, but from an indirect free-kick hence the reason it was disallowed.
Reds played some good football at times but, overall, it was ineffective in the tricky underfoot conditions.
On a disappointing afternoon in front of first team assistant manager, Conor Tinnion, there was some brighter news with forgotten man, Elliot Lowrie (pictured), returning to action after almost eighteen months on the sidelines through injury.
Lowrie, injured in a pre-season game in August, 2022, came on for the final quarter of an hour taking his first tentative steps on the comeback trail.
Team: Andrew Mitchell, Hayden Percival, Owen Johnston, Scott Williamson, Zak Walker, Luke Davidson, Chad Grisdale, Cain Pears, Evan Stephenson, Alfie Schofield, Harry Watson. Substitutes – Harley Edmondson, Jaden Scott, Brad Barwise, Callum Bell, Elliot Lowrie.
