Recap
There were two winners in this County League Premier Division fixture – the weather and hosts Cockermouth, with Reds coming a disappointing third!
Cockermouth established a two goal lead mid-way through the first half when Reds failed to deal with two set pieces. The opener came from a free kick and the second via a poorly defended corner with Mike Graham and Luke Graham the scorers for the hosts.
Ten minutes into the second half, Jack Burns reduced the arrears with an unstoppable drive from the edge of the box which found the top corner of the net.
Cockermouth could have added to their lead with no fewer than three efforts rebounding off the woodwork.
Yet Reds could have salvaged a point deep into stoppage time but squandered a golden opportunity from the penalty spot. James Bell’s meandering run into the area culminated in him being fouled and a penalty awarded.
Bell took the spot-kick himself but was thwarted by the ‘keeper’s fine save.
