MATCH REPORT: Workington Reds Ladies  9-0  Annan Athletic Ladies

Reds Ladies began their preparations for the new season by turning out in the pouring rain at Derwent Park.

They invited Annan Ladies to west Cumbria for their first friendly and, in keeping with the miserable July weather, produced a deluge of goals for their hardy band of supporters.

Debutante Bea Barber helped herself to a hat-trick in her maiden outing for the club and Rowan Williams also marked her first appearance with a goal, as Reds inflicted a heavy defeat on the ‘Black & Golds’ for a second consecutive summer.

Twelve months ago, they won 8-0 at Galabank but they went one better on this occasion with six players getting their names on the scoresheet.

Morgan McGrady (2), Kacey Rodgers, Liv Bennett and Jess Reid netted the other goals.

The game was marred by an injury to the Annan ‘keeper and Sophie Douglas which resulted in both players having to leave the field.

Reds have welcomed four new players to the squad following the five departures at the end of last season.

Next Sunday, they host Morecambe at Borough Park (2pm).
