MATCH REPORT: Workington Reds Ladies 4-1 Queen of the South Ladies

Reds completed their three-match programme of pre-season games with an excellent victory over their Dumfries counterparts at Derwent Park.

They had to recover from an early setback with Queens taking a third minute lead following a bit of uncertainty in defence.

But by half time they were well in control having established a two-goal advantage.

Emi Rudd equalised with a close-range finish after good build-up play before Hayley Bracken turned the game in Reds’ favour with two stunning strikes. Her first, a powerful low shot which found the bottom corner, was matched by the second soon after when she smashed the ball high into the net leaving the Queens’ ‘keeper helpless on each occasion.

The visitors dominated long periods of the second half but couldn’t break a solid Reds defence and the victory was sealed late in the game when Keeley Holliday scored another cracking goal, volleying home from the edge of the area.

Reds start their season proper in a fortnight.
