MATCH REPORT: Workington Reds Ladies  2-0  Carlisle United Ladies

Reds Ladies got their first points on the board in Division One North with a straightforward derby win at the Fibrus Community Stadium.

They haven’t had much joy against the Blues in recent meetings but dominated much of the game and two first half goals secured that welcome first win.

Such is the strength of the Reds squad at the moment, the victory was achieved despite the absence of a number of seasoned regulars.

Bea Barber opened the scoring with a good shot on the turn just thirteen minutes in but that all important second goal didn’t come until late in the first half.

It was worth the wait, though, with Liv Bennett dragging the ball inside then sending a fine shot into the top corner of the net with the Carlisle ‘keeper helpless.

Helen Wagstaff hobbled off soon after the restart and her presence was missed in the second half.

Neither side created much in the way of clear-cut chances after the break – a situation which obviously suited Reds more than United – with the latter now having failed to score in their first three league matches.

Reds play their first away game on Sunday as they prepare for a trip to Bolton Wanderers.

Team: Laura Miller, Sophie Birkett, Naomi Foster, Eleanor McDonald, Nat Hooper, Helen Wagstaff, Keeley Holliday, Liv Bennett, Emi Rudd, Morgan McGrady, Bea Barber.  Substitutes – Hannah Geen, Hannah Ridgewell, Alice Kemp, Lauren Campbell, Sophie Nutter.
