MATCH REPORT: Workington Reds Ladies 1-0 Chorley Women Development
Reds Ladies collected their second league win of the season following a dominant performance against Chorley’s Development Squad.
The only goal came after eleven minutes with Sophie Birkett netting what proved to be the winner. And the three points saw Reds’ leap-frog Chorley in the Division One North table, to finish the day in 7th position.
It was a good all round team performance from Reds although the victory margin was scant reward for their efforts.

The morale boosting win was secured with Birkett (inset) rewarded for her anticipation and awareness in the penalty area. The Chorley goalkeeper had saved well to keep out Morgan McGrady’s original shot but the loose ball fell invitingly to Birkett who had the simple task of converting from close range.
Reds couldn’t add to their first half goal but did have another ruled out for offside.
The outstanding Chloe Henderson saw one fine drive narrowly miss the target and Linzi Donaldson was thwarted by a fine reflex save from Mollie Finch as Reds pressed for a second goal.
Laura Miller was hardly troubled in the home goal and dealt with a couple of lofted shots from distance confidently. Her only moment of concern came in the seventy-fifth minute when a rare Chorley attempt was kept out with a fine diving save.
Reds are back on the road next week when they travel to play the only unbeaten team in the division, Accrington Stanley.
