MATCH REPORT: Workington Reds Ladies 0-1 Penrith Ladies
Reds Ladies failed in their bid to overcome league rivals, Penrith, in the Cumberland Cup semi final making their exit from the competition at Borough Park.
It was a closely fought game with clear-cut chances few and far between in a goalless first half.
Penrith scored the only goal of the game a quarter of an hour before the end when substitute, Sarah Smith, netted the winner.
Top scorer Hayley Bracken has been a big miss to Reds in recent weeks and her absence, through injury, has coincided with a downturn in form.
They had to go into the game without two or three regulars but some of the youngsters are grabbing the opportunity to impress and there was a promising debut from Sophie Douglas.
Favourites Penrith will now meet Stanwix Ladies in the final after they knocked out Whitehaven in the other semi.
Reds will return to league action with a trip to Penwortham Town on Sunday, looking for a first win in seven.
