MATCH REPORT: Ponteland United Women 3-0 Workington Reds Ladies
Reds Ladies FA Cup run is over for this season after they made their exit at the Second Round Qualifying stage at Druid Park, Newcastle.
“As individuals, Ponteland were comfortable in possession, well organised and efficient and those were the key differences between the teams,” was Paul Mackenzie’s honest assessment of the tie.
The game was quite even for the first half hour but a moment of indecision ten minutes before the interval broke the deadlock in Ponteland’s favour.
Although they created few clear-cut opportunities, Reds’ determination kept them in contention until the final quarter of an hour.
United doubled their advantage thirteen minutes before the end and confidently added another before the final whistle.
Significantly, Reds heroes were in defence with Naomi Foster and Laura Miller probably the best performers on the day.
