MATCH REPORT: Mancunian Unity Women 2-1 Workington Reds Ladies
The first ever league clash between the clubs produced a closely fought encounter but, after a tough ninety minutes, Reds had nothing to show for their efforts other than pride.
Newcomers to Division One North this season, Unity are the only team with a 100% winning record and they made it seven wins in a row with a goal in each half.

Reds defence was solid throughout and showed great resilience to keep the hosts at bay for as long as they did.
Celestial Gordon did open the scoring mid-way through the first half but Reds felt that the scorer had fouled Holly Redmond in her attempt to get the ball over the line. The referee thought otherwise.
They doubled their winning margin early in the second half when Liz Ince scored with Reds’ woes compounded when Naomi Foster was injured in the build-up and forced to retire.
Brave Reds got back into the game when Laura Ivison (inset) scored her first league goal for the club. Rowan Williams and Hannah Geen did the spadework, with good work on the left, before Ivison finished superbly.

Williams then went close to netting a late equaliser but, unfortunately, her shot just cleared the bar.
Proud manager, Paul Mackenzie, said, “Overall, it was a very solid performance and the whole squad showed great character with plenty of steel in a commendable display.”
