MATCH PREVIEW: Whitehaven Cup Final

The Reds Development Squad has the opportunity to lift some silverware in their last game of the season on Monday at Borough Park (6.45pm).

They will play Aspatria in the Whitehaven Cup Final, the County League’s flagship knock-out competition.

Aspatria just missed out on the County League title, finishing runners-up to Pirelli, so will be keen to lift the trophy at the expense of Reds who ended the campaign in fourth spot.

The two league meetings saw Aspatria winning 4-1 back in August with Reds worthy of the point in a 2-2 draw in last month’s return.  Tom Houghton scored in both league games and the top scorer will be hoping to do so again in the final to reach the 20 goal mark.

The young Reds knocked out Pirelli (3-1), Mirehouse (7-3) and Gosforth (2-1) en route to the final and last lifted the trophy in 1997.

Team manager Brian Dawson and assistant Craig Routledge will leave the club after the game and it could also be the final appearance in a red shirt for several of the players.

For those unable to attend the match, it can be followed on the Live Scoreboard.
