Workington’s nine match winning run has been put on hold for the past fortnight and all momentum build-up in that impressive sequence is in jeopardy because of the stop-start nature of their schedule.
They will be hoping for a return to action on Saturday at Ramsbottom United but the NPL West fixture will only go ahead if an 0830 pitch inspection determines conditions as favourable.
Reds last played on 5th February, the 2-0 success v. Mossley, then had the game at Bootle cancelled and had a free Saturday last week with another one lurking in early March.
It is far from ideal but the squad can only prepare as best they can and be ready to resume this week, next Saturday or whenever.
Rammy have endured a tough winter so far, in terms of results, but bounced back in style last time out, emerging emphatic winners against Clitheroe. Reds will find it equally difficult at the Riverside Stadium, where they have never won, as their lead at the top of the table has been whittled down to one point.
The Borough Park meeting back in September resulted in a narrow 1-0 Reds victory thanks to a first half goal from Rowan Roache but it was an even contest over the ninety minutes.
Chris Willcock’s former club is currently 15th in the table but was expected to feature in the promotion race this season. Their home form has certainly been more productive than that on the road with twenty two points obtained at the Riverside compared to just eight on their travels.
If the game is postponed, Reds could find themselves down to third spot by Saturday evening with Marine and Warrington Rylands expected to win their games against Clitheroe and Kendal Town respectively.
