MATCH PREVIEW: Warrington bound
Reds have made the 136 mile trip to Warrington many times over the years but Tuesday’s journey down the M6 will be for a first ever clash v. Warrington Rylands and not a more familiar opponent, Warrington Town.
Rylands are the new kids on the block in the town with ambitions to eventually leap-frog their higher ranked neighbours. They said good-bye to Step 5 football last season and signed off in style by lifting the FA Vase at Wembley. That success under the ‘Arch’ was an incredible achievement – ten rounds, including the final – and certainly put the club on the map.
Even more people are taking notice of them this term after a very good start to life in the Northern Premier League. Their impressive 3-0 win at previous leaders, Mossley, on Saturday lifted them to 5th position with twenty points now obtained from their opening ten games.
The top five clash is the only West Division fixture this week and was originally scheduled for 24 August but had to be cancelled to accommodate Reds FA Cup replay at Marine.
The return meeting will be at Borough Park in April when both clubs will be hoping to have retained their interest in the title race.
Rylands’ stadium at Gorsey Lane is to the north east of the town centre, two and half miles north of Town’s ground.
Kick-off 7.45pm
