MATCH PREVIEW: Top three in action
The NPL’s West Division stages three important fixtures on Tuesday with the top three all in action.
Reds make a second attempt to play their game at City of Liverpool whilst nearest rivals, Marine, have home advantage against Mossley. Third place Warrington Rylands travel to Colne.
Workington should have played CoL on 11th December but the game was postponed, due to a waterlogged pitch, which will mean an early afternoon departure ahead of the 163 miles journey to Vauxhall Motors’ stadium for the re-match.
City of Liverpool, who ground share with Motors, returned to action on Saturday with an impressive 2-0 win over Runcorn Linnets at the Syncreon Arena. They had been idle since before Christmas due to Covid and weather related postponements.
Reds’ first team haven’t played at the stadium since 2014 when their relegation from Conference North was confirmed following a 2-1 defeat against Vauxhall Motors. Sam Smith and Dan Wordsworth were in the squad that day and are expected to line-up in another key fixture as Reds hope to hang-on to top spot.
City are currently in 10th position having obtained 29 points from their twenty matches. Their home record is very reliable with four wins, four draws and just two defeats.
The two sides met at Borough Park in August when second half goals from Dav Symington, Nic Evangelinos and Dan Wordsworth secured a 3-0 victory. Chris Willcock will be hoping to travel with the same squad which did so well on Saturday.
Kick-off 7.45pm
