MATCH PREVIEW: Third time lucky?

Hyde United will be hoping to complete ‘the treble’ over Reds on Saturday when they travel to Borough Park for NPL Premier Division action (3pm).

But Danny Grainger’s side will be aiming to make it third time lucky having already lost twice to The Tigers this term.

Back in October, Hyde recorded a 3-1 victory in west Cumbria to knock us out of the FA Trophy then, last month, inflicted a 2-0 league defeat upon us at The Project Solar Stadium.

We did ‘okay’ in both games but obviously not enough to win and we know the standard required if we are to prevent Nick Spooner’s side winning a second time on our patch.

They recently lost for the first time in fifteen league outings and that run of seven wins and seven draws has lifted them up to second place in the table.  To date, they have amassed 56 points from sixteen wins and eight draws with seven of their victories obtained on the road.

The mid-week results didn’t impact on Reds and we go into the weekend’s fixture in 11th position with 41 points from our 32 matches.

Two of our teenage loan players, Aran Fitzpatrick and Jake Allan, featured in Carlisle United’s one-sided Cumberland Cup victory over Whitehaven Miners Social on Tuesday, but Sam Hetherington wasn’t involved because of the injury he picked up at FC United last week.

Grainger, nevertheless, will have to make at least one change to the squad with Bobby Carroll starting a three-match suspension.

Hyde are unbeaten on their last six visits to Cumbria (three wins and three draws) and will be looking to extend that sequence to consolidate a play-off spot.

Reds need the points to maintain a push for a top half finish as six of the clubs below us have games in hand.
This will be the last opportunity to see the team at home until Easter Monday with next week’s free Saturday followed by away trips to Gainsborough and Stafford.

  • Joe Bunney, who played nine games on loan for Workington earlier this season, is expected to feature for Hyde.
