MATCH PREVIEW: The final countdown

Reds will make a third attempt to play their NPL West encounter at Bootle on Tuesday after previous postponements in February and March.

It is one of the games in hand they have on leaders Warrington Rylands and one they need to cash in on.

Chris Willcock’s side started the current season with five successive league victories but finishing the campaign in identical fashion would be considered highly unlikely.  The team just has to amass as many points from the remaining fixtures as possible and see where it takes them.

Bootle slipped up at Leek on Saturday so will be keen to return to winning ways in front of their home supporters.

They are currently 7th in the table having obtained 55 points from their 34 games but only Rylands have scored more league goals than Bootle.  Reds consolidated 2nd spot on Saturday with the comfortable victory over Colne and now have 76 points in the bank.

Remarkably, Bootle have drawn just the one game this season and that was the outcome (2-2) at Borough Park four months ago.

Record scorer, Scott Allison, will return to the squad after missing Saturday’s game because of personal reasons.

It will be the first time Reds have faced Bootle in a first team fixture at the Berry Street Garage Stadium but they did play City of Liverpool at the venue in 2019.

Kick-off: 7.45pm

Venue: Vesty Road, Bootle, L30 1NY
