MATCH PREVIEW: The final countdown
Just seven league matches remaining in the regular season with Reds hoping to extend that to nine by reaching the play-offs final.
Glossop North End travel to the north west on Saturday (3pm) for a league encounter, with the points equally important to Stuart Mellish and Danny Grainger. Glossop are fighting for their lives at the wrong end of the NPL West Division table, whilst Reds still require a few wins to guarantee a top five finish.
And the Reds boss will stick with the squad he has got for the remainder of the campaign with no additions prior to Thursday’s registration deadline.
That squad is about as strong as it has been all season with Kai Nugent, Conor Tinnion, Scott Allison, Ceiran Casson and Dan Wordsworth coming into contention for the Glossop encounter after sitting out the Cumberland Cup semi-final in midweek. Sam Smith is still suspended but the rest of those who faced Carlisle City are available and will ensure a few team selection posers for the manager.
Workington won at Surrey Street in November thanks to goals from Bobby Carroll, David Symington and Steven Rigg but the visitors will be hoping to take a positive result back down the motorway after a winless run of late.
They have been solid at the back, though, with former Reds loan player, Niall Moran, and Joe Maguire (brother of England star, Harry) playing in defence recently. Niall actually played for us in the first meeting so an unusual situation for him.
Glossop have obtained thirty points so far with eighteen of those picked up on their travels thanks, in the main, to wins at 1874 Northwich, City of Liverpool, Ramsbottom United, Skelmersdale United and Witton Albion. The pitch took a bit of a battering on Tuesday night but the ground staff have worked around the clock to get it in reasonable condition for the 3rd v. 19th fixture.
