MATCH PREVIEW: Ring-rusty Reds back in action
The countdown is on for the remaining games of the season with just five games left at Borough Park.
First-up is Widnes who travel to west Cumbria on Saturday with Reds hoping to carry on from where they left off three weeks ago. A free Saturday and two postponements have seen just one game completed in February and that far from ideal situation will be tested from a much improved Widnes team.
Back in September, we inched to a narrow victory at the Halton Stadium with Ceiran Casson scoring the only goal of a closely fought contest. Widnes had made a poor start to the season but they have climbed steadily since and currently occupy 11th spot.
The two sides didn’t meet at all last season and Widnes’ only previous visit to Borough Park resulted in a 2-0 defeat.
It will be an emotional afternoon as the squad will be without the popular ‘Chas’ Bowman following his serious accident at work earlier this week. He featured in the match at Widnes, although his game time has been limited recently, but this dreadful situation, once again, puts football into perspective. It is, after all, only a game.
Reds have trained well over the last few weeks but there is no substitute for match fitness as the league leaders take on a Widnes outfit who have won four times on the road this term, including a fine 5-0 success at Market Drayton Town.

- The recent postponed games at Bootle and Ramsbottom United have been rearranged for Tuesday evenings in March, the 8th and 22nd respectively.
