MATCH PREVIEW: Reds launch Trophy campaign

Reds will be back in action on Tuesday with the delayed FA Trophy First Qualifying Round tie v. Runcorn Linnets taking place at Borough Park (7.45pm).

Linnets become the 70th different opponent Workington will have faced in the competition and this is the first of two visits as they return to west Cumbria next month for the scheduled league fixture.

They are currently riding high in the early weeks of the NPL West season having obtained ten points so far from three wins and a draw.

Under new management this season, Linnets will provide a tough test as Reds attempt to replicate their two recent away performances on home soil.  Dave Wild succeeded Calum McIntyre as manager and brought in Billy Paynter as part of the coaching staff.  Paynter and Danny Grainger were team mates together at Brunton Park a few seasons ago

Danny has a decent record in the Trophy, albeit brief, winning five and losing two of the eight ties Reds have been involved in.

Scott Allison has scored ten goals in the competition so far whilst Dav Symington, Sam Smith, Dan Wordsworth and Conor Tinnion also have Trophy goals to their credit.

The winners will be determined on the night, via a penalty shoot-out if the scores are level after ninety minutes.

Prize money for this round will see the winners receive £1,500 whilst the losers will be compensated with a cheque for £400.
