MATCH PREVIEW: Reds back in action at Borough Park

It has been quite a while since the first team played on home soil – last December, in fact, but they return to Borough Park with an attractive friendly v. League One outfit, Morecambe, on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

After games at Penrith and Berwick, Reds host Stephen Robinson’s side in what will be their first outing since clinching promotion at Wembley, via the play-offs, last May.

Tickets will still be available up to kick-off with the Borough Park office open from 10am.  There will be no cash turnstile in operation on the night.

We played at Morecambe last year in what was our first visit to their ‘new’ stadium, with all previous encounters staged at their former Christie Park home.  We lost 1-0 on that occasion – Cole Stockton scoring the winner – and a similar result would be considered a satisfactory outcome in view of the respective status of both clubs.

Steven Rudd should have a stronger squad available to the one which lost at Berwick Rangers, with four senior players expected to return.

Reds were Northern Premier League rivals of Morecambe for eleven seasons between1977 and 1988 and once inflicted a 7-1 league defeat on the Shrimps at Borough Park.

But the clubs have been heading in different directions in recent times with Morecambe saying good-bye to non-league football in 2007 and making good progress whilst Reds have experienced a steady decline over the same period.   After all the televised football over the past month, it will be great to get back on the terraces for the ‘real thing’ without the drama of a penalty shoot-out!
