MATCH PREVIEW: Reds add to the squad
Chris Willcock has added experience to the squad ahead of Saturday’s important NPL West encounter at Prescot Cables.

His only piece of business on registration deadline day saw defender/midfielder, Jake Cottrell join the squad. Most recently with Avro in the North West Counties League, Cottrell (pictured) has served Ashton United, Chorley and FC United of Manchester among other clubs.
There was a doubt about Brad Hubbold after Tuesday’s game but Dan Wordsworth will return to the squad after completing his suspension.
The division‘s top four clubs are all away on Saturday with leaders Warrington Rylands expected to collect the points at Ramsbottom whilst Marine and Leek Town travel to Mossley and Colne respectively. Reds, with the best away record in the division, go to Volair Park to face a team they struggled to overcome at Borough Park back in November.
It took a Dave Symington penalty to settle the clash between Reds (2nd) and Cables (18th) but the same player had a second spot-kick saved by Prescot ‘keeper, Mitchell Allen, later in the game. Remarkably, the teams occupy the same positions as they did four months ago with Prescot having obtained 32 points from 33 matches played and Reds passing the seventy point mark thanks to Tuesday’s last gasp victory at Ramsbottom.
The head-to-head v. Kevin Lynch’s Cables is impressive with seven Workington victories and two draws the outcome of the previous nine league games. We also emerged winners in a play-off semi-final back in 2005.
Prescot did come out on top in a League Cup tie at Borough Park in 2018.
