MATCH PREVIEW: Ponte Carlo or bust

Reds will take a break from League action on Saturday when they embark on another FA Trophy run at Pontefract Collieries (3pm)

They will make the near 150 mile journey on the back of three successive league victories with manager Danny Grainger hoping to shuffle the pack and play some of the squad returning from injury.

Ponte have a new team this season, following the mass exodus over the summer, with Andy Monkhouse now in charge.  He will know a fair bit about Reds having played against us for former clubs Hartlepool United, Whitby Town, Ossett United and Tadcaster Albion in recent seasons.

The majority of his squad will be unknown to Reds, although we have played against Gavin Rothery and Damian Reeves several times over the years.

Until last season, we had never won a Trophy tie in Yorkshire but the qualities we displayed in the battling victory at Tadcaster will stand us in good stead for what will be a tough encounter at Beechnut Lane.

The FA Trophy has been a godsend for the club over the past decade or so and, since the introduction of prize money by the FA in 2007, Reds have banked almost £100,000 on the back of twenty two wins in the competition.

Winners and losers will pick up a cheque this season with Saturday’s Second Round Qualifying tie split £2,250/£575 respectively.

Admission is on a pay at the turnstile basis.
