MATCH PREVIEW: League football returns to town

Northern Premier League football returns to Borough Park on Tuesday (7.45pm) with Reds welcoming Trafford for the first home game of the 20-21 campaign.

After starting the season with four away games, Reds will host their first NPL North/West fixture on home soil since 10 March.

Scott Allison v. Trafford

Danny Grainger will have to shuffle the pack again as injuries and a suspension account for four of the first team squad as the fixtures come thick and fast

And after two tough tests against Trafford last season, our opponents will be given the utmost respect as both sides seek their first league win.  They have one point to their credit so far, thanks to a goalless home draw v. Tadcaster Albion, but their other two matches have been in the FA Cup.

They eased past neighbours Wythenshawe Amateurs (4-1) at the first hurdle but then fell to a late goal at Marske United (0-1) last week.

Last season’s encounters were ‘nail-biters’ from a Workington perspective with a hard fought 1-0 success obtained at Shawe View before we salvaged a home draw in January after twice going behind.

We have now played each other fourteen times with the head-to-head revealing six wins for Workington, four for Trafford and four draws.

Supporters are reminded that there will be no cash admission at the turnstiles with entry limited to 400 under current restrictions.  Tickets (still available from the office tomorrow between 1000-1400) have been selling well.
