MATCH PREVIEW: Impressive travellers have good Borough Park record

Although it’s quite a few years since their last visit to west Cumbria, Leek Town will have no qualms about playing at Borough Park having won four times in the past.

They were unbeaten in their first five visits to Workington, recording four league victories and a draw in a cup tie.

We have redressed the balance slightly in the more recent encounters but the Staffordshire side is still ahead in the series.

The FA Trophy tie at Harrison Park two years ago was the first meeting since the 2004-05 season and an excellent performance earned Reds a fine 3-1 victory. Brad Hubbold will recall the game, I’m sure, after scoring a wonder goal which restored Workington’s lead early in the second half.

Leek seem to be having more joy on the road at the moment, winning their last three matches on their travels but yet to taste victory on home soil.

They won at Northwich 1874 (3-0) on Tuesday and have also won at Market Drayton Town (1-0) and, in the Cup, at Gresley Rovers (2-0). Those impressive results followed an opening day reverse (0-2) at Warrington Rylands.

Reds’ injury situation is slowly beginning to ease but five or six players will not be ready in time for this weekend and Kyle Harrison will serve the final game of his suspension.

Indeed, another player has been drafted into the squad with Levi Amantchi agreeing to register on a non-contract basis. Levi played once for us last season and appeared at Borough Park in the pre-season game against Morecambe.
