MATCH PREVIEW: Greens hoping to give Reds the Blues
It will be 3rd v. 6th at Borough Park on Saturday as Reds host 1874 Northwich in NPL West Division action (3pm).
And the visitors will be looking for a first win over Workington in what will be the third meeting between the sides.
Last season, they obtained a point from a 2-2 draw in west Cumbria with the return at Barnton resulting in a 4-2 away win for Chris Willcock’s team.
It will be Danny Grainger’s first encounter against 1874 but he will be aiming to add to an impressive run through Autumn which has yielded twenty-six points from the thirty-three on offer.
The manager has plenty to consider before naming his starting XI with injuries, a possible suspension and a new recruit to contemplate ahead of kick-off. The skipper and vice-captain have both been nursing knocks recently, Reuben Jerome is awaiting the outcome of the club’s appeal on his behalf of the harsh sending-off at Skelmersdale whilst Brad Hubbold has returned to the club after a brief spell with Lancaster City.
In his four previous seasons with the club, Brad made 91 starts (with a further 36 appearances as a substitute) scoring nine goals in the process. His return just adds to the competition of the midfield department with plenty of options for the manager.
1874 have made a solid start to the campaign winning six, drawing six and losing just four of their games so far with one of their away successes a 1-0 victory at Macclesfield.
Plenty of World Cup football on TV this Saturday but it will be possible for some of the locals to watch three and half games on the small screen as well as the main event at Borough Park.
