MATCH PREVIEW: Final dress rehearsal
Workington will head up the A69 for a third successive Saturday as they complete their pre-season fixtures at Dunston (3pm).
The club will return to the UTS Stadium for the first time in fifteen years after being regular visitors there during the early 2000s.
Indeed, Reds have played half a dozen pre-season games at their ground in the past – winning twice, losing twice and drawing twice. Dunston did visit Borough Park on one occasion for a Summer friendly, winning 2-1.
More recently, the 2019-20 season in fact, we were due to play each other twice in NPL North West.
The Borough Park contest was played on Boxing Day, 2019 with Reds emerging 4-1 winners in the first ever league meeting between the clubs. Conor Tinnion scored twice that day and was joined on the score sheet by Nathan Waterston and Scott Allison. The goal of the match, though, was netted by Scott Heslop in what proved an entertaining game.
Sadly, the return fixture was never played due to the Covid lockdown.
Dunston now operate in the NPL East Division where they finished in 6th position last term.
Danny Grainger will travel with a similar squad to the one that emerged comfortable winners at Ashington last week, in what is likely to be the toughest test of their three matches in the north east.
