MATCH PREVIEW: Early start in Cup
Borough Park stages its first FA Cup tie for three years on Saturday when league rivals, Marine, make the first of two successive Saturday visits to west Cumbria.
The FA Cup Preliminary Round tie sees last season’s opponents of Tottenham Hotspur travel to play at Workington in a first ever meeting between the clubs in the competition.
All previous encounters have been under the Northern Premier League banner, either in league, League Cup or President’s Cup action.
Like Reds, Neil Young’s Marine have won their opening two matches with away successes over Ramsbottom United (3-0) and Newcastle Town (3-1) seeing them emerge as the early league leaders.
Their talented squad includes former Workington player David Lynch whose last visit to Borough Park was as Clitheroe’s manager last season.
A few of the Reds squad will be making their FA Cup debut in the tie as will the match referee, Matthew Archibald, who takes charge of his first match in the competition.
Replays have been re-instated this season so, if Saturday’s encounter finishes in a draw, the replay will take place at the Marine Travel Arena on Tuesday. That would then mean three meetings between the sides in eight days as we host the Crosby outfit next week when league points will be at stake. Tickets are on sale from the office up until kick-off (3pm).
