MATCH PREVIEW: Cumberland Cup action

The first two Cumberland Cup quarter finals take place on Tuesday with holders, Workington, hosting Unisun Athletic at Borough Park (7.45pm).

Penrith take on Carlisle United in one of the other ties at Frenchfield.

Reds face the Carlisle based County League outfit who are opponents of our Development Squad in the Premier Division.

Danny Grainger has named a mixed squad – eight first teamers and eight members of the Development side – for the tie and insists he wants to win the cup for a second successive season.  Danny Eccles, who lifted the Cumberland Cup at Brunton Park last May, will play in goal for his first action since early December.

Aidy Roxburgh has experienced a wretched season with injuries but will feature against Unisun as will fellow summer signing, Finlay Wallbank, another recently back from injury.

Other senior players expected to play are Sam Smith, Brad Hubbold, Greg McCaragher, Bobby Carroll and Kitt Nelson.

Reds started the campaign with a 1-0 win over Gosforth then accounted for Dearham United, 5-0, in the next round.  Cain Pears chipped in with a hat-trick against Dearham and he, and fellow scorer, Sam Christian, have been named in the squad.

Unisun received a bye in the first round then won impressively (2-0) at Kirkoswald in the previous round.

The last eight of the competition includes a mixture of local and senior teams:

Penrith v. Carlisle United

Workington v. Unisun Athletic

Windscale v. Maryport Athletic

Alston Moor v. Whitehaven Miners Social
