MATCH PREVIEW: City host Reds
Although Reds still have two weeks (and a few days) of pre-season to complete, it will be the final dress rehearsal for Carlisle City on Tuesday evening (7.45pm) as they begin their Northern League programme this weekend.
With just two, possibly three, friendlies to play, Reds will be keen to put on a decent performance ahead of a tough looking fixture at Borough Park on Saturday – the visit of Lancaster City. They will face a Sky Blues side who have endured a mixed bag of results over the past month or so.
It will be another good test for the team and new manager, Chris Willcock, who will be keen to implement his style of play on the squad as soon as possible. He will have been pleased with some of the play he witnessed on Saturday yet disappointed with other aspects of the performance.
The full first team squad will travel to Gillford Park although a few will not be fit to play any part in the game.
There will the usual quota of former Workington players in the City ranks and local pride will be at stake as the hosts have their last run-out before they welcome Billingham Synthonia in the League opener.
Admission is a very reasonable £3 (£2 for concession) for a game that has become a regular pre-season encounter in recent years. Last year we won 5-2 but, apart from the game at Whitehaven, we have struggled to find the net on a regular basis during the summer warm-up games.
