MATCH PREVIEW: Borough Park hosts top five clash

Reds and Clitheroe will meet for the second time in four days on Tuesday with Danny Grainger’s fifth placed side taking on David Lynch’s title favourites at Borough Park (7.45pm).

The two sides crossed paths, literally, at Scotch Corner Services on Saturday en route to their respective FA Trophy ties but it is the meeting on grass which will challenge the two unbeaten teams.

Both go into the eagerly awaited encounter on the back of very good wins on Saturday – Reds impressive victors at struggling Pontefract, Clitheroe even more impressive winners at current league leaders, Dunston.

Home advantage proved the key in last season’s tussles with Clitheroe emerging deserved 2-0 winners at Shawbridge with Reds coming out on top, 4-1, in the return at a stormy (Jorge) Borough Park.

Clitheroe boss, Lynch, is a former Workington player of course – he enjoyed an excellent personal season with us six years ago – as is Cole Lonsdale who did well for us last season.  Brad Carroll, now into his third season as a Red, previously skippered the Lancashire club. The game will be a sell-out once again but there will be coverage on BBC Radio Cumbria and on the Live Scoreboard, via the website, for those unable to attend.
