MATCH PREVIEW: Bank Holiday trip to Shawbridge

Depleted Reds complete a tough weekend programme with a trip to play league leaders, Clitheroe.

They head for Shawbridge on Monday (3pm) for a top of the table clash against the hosts, who are unbeaten in their five matches to date.

Clitheroe were held to a 2-2 draw in their opening fixture v. 1874 Northwich but have subsequently obtained nine points with wins over Bootle (7-1), Prescot Cables (3-2) and Glossop North End (2-0).  Progress has also been made in the FA Cup with success obtained at the ‘other’ Northwich side, Victoria (2-1).

They are scoring goals from all over the field, no fewer than sixteen so far, with former Red, Cole Lonsdale, netting two so far – via the penalty spot.

Workington’s last visit to Clitheroe was nearly two years ago when they suffered a comprehensive 2-0 defeat with Lonsdale an opponent and a scorer that evening.   That reverse represents our only defeat at Shawbridge with victories obtained there in the North West Counties League (1-0), FA Trophy (2-0) and a pre-season friendly (1-0).

Reds and Clitheroe have met eight times competitively with the head-to-head revealing five wins for us, two for them and one draw.    Parking is limited at the ground (BB7 1LZ) so, if travelling by car, please respect the privacy of the local residents.
