MATCH PREVIEW: Back on the road

Win or lose Tuesday’s league fixture at Trafford (7.45pm), Reds will still top the NPL West Division table after six games.  And that is quite remarkable in view of the testing circumstances experienced over the first three weeks of the season.

To piece together their best ever start in thirty four seasons of Northern Premier League football has exceeded all supporters’ expectations, considering Reds have been anything but a settled side.

But a very tough test awaits at Shawe View when the second placed hosts attempt to become the first team to dent Reds’ 100% winning start.

Danny Caldecott is a hungry young manager in charge of a team with an appetite for success.  They went through a seven match unbeaten pre-season and haven’t lost in their five league games (three wins, two draws) to date.

Their only defeat suffered so far was an FA Cup replay defeat at Colne.

The record books tell us this will be the sixteenth meeting between the two sides and the head-to-head reads: six wins for Workington, four wins for Trafford with four matches drawn.

Last season, we played only once with a 2-2 draw the outcome at Borough Park before the premature end to the campaign ruled out the return in Manchester.
