MATCH PREVIEW: A66 Derby
Reds will host the Blues of Penrith on Tuesday (7.30pm) as the new season inches ever closer.
Penrith actually start their campaign on Saturday but Reds have over a fortnight to fine-tune and complete their preparations.
With Penrith opening their Northern League programme at Whitley Bay, Darren Edmondson might be comparing notes with Danny Grainger following Reds’ emphatic victory at Hillheads on Saturday.
Danny will go with a similar squad to the one that travelled to the north east with a couple of the absentees expected to return. Penrith will have several ex. Workington men on duty at Borough Park.
In last year’s friendly at Frenchfield, Reds emerged 3-1 winners with DJ Taylor scoring one of the Workington goals but it will be a role-reversal for the winger on this occasion.
Similarly, Hayden Tait played in blue twelve months ago but could be representing Reds this time.
It’s a scenario that’s happened numerous times over the years with many players having served both clubs at various stages of their careers.
More recently, the clubs squared up to each other in last season’s Cumberland Cup Final and, despite both managers attempts to freshen-up their respective squads, several players who were on duty at Brunton Park will face each other again on Tuesday.
