League points the focus

Reds will return to BetVictor North West division action on Saturday when they host first time visitors, Brighouse Town (3pm).

The campaign has had a stop-start feel to it recently with only two of the last nine fixtures in the league. But we are now at a stage where there will be a long sequence of Saturday games and we can focus fully on retaining top spot.

Easier said than done of course and Brighouse are one of a dozen clubs who will still feel they have a chance of promotion. We have done well for a third of the season, that’s all.

Brig finished third in last season’s East Division but, despite winning both their play-off matches, were denied promotion because of the imbalance of the ‘pyramid’ and the ‘insufficient points-to-game ratio’.

They are currently in ninth position having won seven and lost seven of their fifteen games played.

Danny Grainger will have a near full squad available to select from including loan signing Taylor Charters. The teenager has joined on a Youth Loan and will be available to face Brighouse and all our matches until 2nd January. He played for Carlisle United against us in last season’s Cumberland Cup competition and has continued to make good progress with the Blues Development squad.
