Joe laid to rest

The funeral took place of former Workington manager, Joe Wojciechowicz on Tuesday afternoon.  He passed away just over a fortnight ago, aged 72.

The Parish Church at Morecambe was full to capacity as family, friends and numerous representatives from such clubs as Morecambe, Lancaster City, Barrow and Workington said farewell to a popular member of the north-west football fraternity throughout the seventies and eighties.

After joining the club as an assistant to Sean Gallagher, Joe spent nearly four years at Borough Park guiding Reds to NPL President’s Cup glory in the final match of his 145 game tenure in 1984.

Joe’s skipper, John Reach, was at the funeral along with Neil McDonald, Vaughn Williams and a member of the backroom staff at the time, Bob Lockwood.  Other players with Reds links in attendance were Graham Byram, Gerry Farrell and Barrie Stimpson.

RIP Joe.
