Gordon lands top fan award in Brum
Reds may have missed out on the top team award at the NPL Presentation Evening but the Workington contingent was still celebrating.
Life-long Workington supporter, Gordon McAllister, was voted NPL Fan of the Year and collected an engraved glass memento on the stage, in front of hundreds of guests, at the first dinner since lockdown.
Gordon, 87, has been a regular at Borough Park since 1945 so is a worthy winner of the prestigious award. He has followed Reds through their latter seasons in the North Eastern League, the Football League, the North West Counties League, the National League and thirty five seasons as members of the Northern Premier League.
The Workington party shared a table with Jacob Hazel who played for Reds back in 2013 and the former Whitby Town striker collected two individual awards – the Premier Division Player of the Year and the Golden Boot award.

Reds had the West Division Runners-up trophy re-presented whilst three of the players – Jim Atkinson, Kyle Harrison and Brad Carroll – were named in the hypothetical ‘team of the year’. The lavish dinner was held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham and Gordon was accompanied by son, Stephen, who described the evening as a “truly memorable occasion.”
