Farewell Boss
Family, friends and former colleagues from the football world said a fond farewell to Peter Hampton on Friday.
The funeral took place at Carlisle but, due to current restrictions, the majority of mourners had to listen to the service outside via the crematorium public address system.
Peter passed away whilst on holiday last month having recently celebrated his sixty-sixth birthday.
The former Leeds United, Stoke City, Burnley, Rochdale and Carlisle United player was appointed Reds manager in May 1998 before guiding to the club to a first ever title twelve months later.
In his only managerial post, Peter took over the Borough Park hot seat at a critical time but revived the club’s fortunes after lifting the North West Counties League title, regaining NPL status at the first attempt. His achievement was recognised by the League’s ‘Manager of the Year’ award.
Peter remained at the club until October, 2001.
We send our condolences to Chris, his wife, Fiona, James and their families.
- By sad coincidence, it is two years since Tony Hopper, our former skipper, passed away.
