Extra miles for the Reds
Reds will have to go the extra few miles in their quest for NPL honours in the new season.
Last term they travelled 2,727 for their nineteen away games in the league – a total mileage of 5,454. For the 2022-22 campaign, they will venture slightly further – 2,824 miles for an overall tally of 5,648.
That total may reduce, depending on where City of Liverpool ground-share.
They have ‘lost’ their longest and shortest journeys from last season following the relegation of Market Drayton Town (181) and Kendal Town (55) respectively. There will be no visits to Warrington Rylands (136) and Marine (140), either, following their promotion.
Replacing those four will be trips to Hanley Town (173), Macclesfield (157), Witton Albion (149) and Skelmersdale United (130).
Reds have never played at Hanley Town before and will play Skelmersdale at a ‘new’ venue with their base last season the JMO Sports Park, a complex Reds Reserves have visited in the past during their Lancashire League days.
It will be interesting to see who we will be paired with for the Bank Holiday fixtures with Clitheroe (121) now our nearest opponents.
Hanley Town and Newcastle Town (173) will be the longest journeys with the other away days: Leek Town (168), Kidsgrove Athletic (167), City of Liverpool (163/135), Macclesfield (157), Glossop North End (154), Runcorn Linnets (150), Witton Albion (149), 1874 Northwich (149), Mossley (147), Prescot Cables (144), Widnes (144), Trafford (136), Bootle (135), Colne (135), Skelmersdale United (130), Ramsbottom United (129) and Clitheroe (121).
