Recap
Workington progressed to the next round of the League Cup after a deserved win on the road.
And in difficult conditions Reds had to show plenty of character, after conceding an early goal, to swing the game in their favour.
They conceded after five minutes, following some sloppy defending, but responded well and were soon back in contention. They created a few chances before finding an equaliser midway through the half.
Joe Carney forced his way through to intercept the ball and left the ‘keeper helpless with a firm finish. From that point to the interval, Reds were on top and got their noses in front in first half stoppage time.
Scott Christian delivered a pin-point free kick into the area which was met by Liam White who headed home the winner.
They continued to dominate possession in the second half and operated well down the flanks but squandered four chances and the hosts, who had rarely threatened, almost made them rue their wastefulness in front of goal.
Thankfully Joe Rumney came to the rescue with a fine save to deny United a late equaliser.
Other than that, they had managed the game well.
The game became a bit feisty towards the end with a flurry of yellow cards brandished, two of which to Leyton Roberts and Alfie McDonough.
Reds can enjoy the Christmas break before resuming on 4 January.
Team: Joe Rumney, Luke Routledge, Joe Douglas (Leyton Roberts), Harley Edmondson, Harrison Telford, Kelvin Amor (Lucas Palmer), Sam Christian, Liam White (Cohen French), Jayden Fulton, Joe Carney, Alfie McDonough.
