Recap
The young Reds made the long, early morning journey to the Potteries and emerged emphatic winners after a first ever meeting against their Foley Meir counterparts.
After a slow start, they became accustomed to the pitch and, after going in front via a penalty, played some amazing football leaving head coach, Craig Johnston, purring with delight, “A fantastic result,” he said.
But they needed an excellent early save from Suproto Mansur to prevent the hosts taking the lead.
Reds got their noses in front after a Jayden Fulton sortie down the left culminated in the home side conceding a penalty and Owen Johnston stepped up to confidently score from the spot.
That gave them confidence to push on and create several more opportunities, two of which hit the crossbar.
Foley Meir had a good spell well after the restart but were unable to convert from two decent chances.
Reds doubled their lead with a well worked goal involving Alfie McDonough and Brad Keenan with the latter converting from close range.
Provider McDonough then scored the third himself, his fourth in three games, as he calmly slotted the ball past the Meir ‘keeper.
A pleasing aspect to come out of the game was Reds’ ability to handle the physical side of the contest and to play some excellent football when given the opportunity to do so.
